Exercise has both physical and psychological benefits for one’s self. With respect to the former, an exercise routine allows us to maintain our shape and physical resistance, helping us to keep off body weight. In addition, it increases muscle tone and strength and enhances flexibility (tendons and ligaments) so that you can move around in your day-to-day life with much more agility.

You will notice it even in the simple fact of carrying your shopping bags or opening a water bottle. As for specific diseases, it brings many direct benefits since physical activity also increases or regulates bone density. This means that it helps prevent osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and back pain.

  • It frees the mind and reduces anxiety

  • It also decreases the risk of developing diabetes (increases good cholesterol and decreases triglycerides) and dying from cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure. The risk of developing colon or breast cancer is lower.

In terms of psychological gains, it has been shown to reduce depression and anxiety, thus improving overall well-being. And the fact is that exercise frees the mind and boosts endorphins, or what is the same, the happiness hormone.

In addition, it helps you to fall asleep. We already know that a person who wakes up rested is much more productive and feels more encouraged.

Activities to put in mind:

Therefore, this quarantine, do your best to find a gap a day and get 30 minutes of exercise. Keep in mind that not being able to leave the house makes us more sedentary than ever so we must seek balance.

In addition to exercise, there are small actions that will help you to stay in shape. The Ministry of Health recommends not to sit for more than two hours (in the case of children under five years old it is one hour) so remember to get up and walk around the house, drink or even work for a while on your feet (if possible).

Once you’ve finished telecommuting, you shouldn’t stay in front of a screen any longer because it burdens our eyes, we have no mental rest, at the end of the working day, take the opportunity to cook, exercise, organize the house, read.

It is very important for all ages, but especially older people must force themselves to get up from time to time.
